My Recent Gifts

Poor TheParentCoach has no gifts, brighten up their day with a present.

Me and My Family

Hi everybody, My name is Anne Quinn and I''m 52 years young.

I have seven children, Matthew 32, Carolyn 31, Jenna 27, Leon Ben 25, John Patrick 17, Siobhan 11, and David is 5

I have four beautiful grandchildren Sophie 6, Marcus 3, Andrew 16months and Jacob 11months

I share my home with my three youngest children,5 fish,4 cats,3 dogs, two guinea pigs and a rabbit (there is no partridge in a pear tree)

I have worked with children for over thirty years, as a house parent with children in care,as a teacher and headteacher working with special needs and mainstream. I''ve worked in schools that are high achieving and in schools in special measures( they are really struggling).

Along the way I''ve worked with social services and foster carers. As a headteacher I became involved in counselling parents and children and trained as a parent coach. Last year I decided that this was the path that I wanted to follow.

I''m now busy

advising parents and children on topics such as, having fun as a family, exam stress and how to manage it, finding the best school for your child, sleep issues ( parents and children!)

opening a school for children who have been severely bullied and can not attend mainstream

working in schools in Tanzania (one month in three) to raise the standard of teacher training

and speaking to any group that wants to listen!

Children who are bullied

Comment Published at 04:5804:580 comments0 comments16 Visits16 VisitsReport

On Wednesday I travelled down to Cambridge to visit a group of youngsters who attend a school called The Red Balloon. This school doesn't look or feel like a school at all and that is the secret of it's success.

The children who attend the school all want to be there, that's rule number one if you want a place. The children share something else, they know what it's like to be bullied, to be so badly bullied that you can't think straight and certainly wouldn't be able to attend a mainstream school. Supported by a wonderful group of staff the children blossom and are able to rejoin mainstream or college as happy, articulate  young people full of confidence for the future.

There are, at present three Red Balloon's, the first school opened in Cambridge 10 years ago . The other two are in London and Norwich. All three are registered charities.  Having visited the school and spoken at length to the Director, I am delighted to announce that Red Balloon is coming North.

I am going to believe the ancient Buddist saying "The path is clear, why do you throw rocks before you" There is lots of organising and networking to be done, if anyone would like more information please feel free to contact me through Minti or my website www.theparentcoach.org.uk
