Who knew teething could be like this!

Wow - had a bad weekend with poor little Oscar! Mum & Mick came over on Wednesday to stay a few nights and fix up my unlce's pool area ready for summer. The boys thought it was fantastic cause they get spoiled rotten. They stayed until Friday and as my brother was coming to their place they took Jack home with them and we were going over on Saturday to catch up with him & stay the night.
Oscar and I went in to do the grocery shopping after they left & had lunch with one of my old work mates. Oscar was very red cheeked all day, but otherwise ok. We got to the supermarket, did the shopping & I was almost finished when he started to fall asleep in the trolley. This is odd as he will normally grizzle if he's tired while we are shopping & then go to sleep in the car. I finished as quickly as I could & we came home, he had a feed & went to bed (around 3.30). He had slept all the way home - which is a half hour drive - and then he slept until 6pm! I thought it was odd but maybe he was really tired. He was ok when he woke up so we went to the pub for tea & then stopped at my cousins house as a mate of mine was down visiting & was there (he was to come to our place later). They had the fire going and it was quite warm so I stripped Oscar off as he seemed hot & his cheeks were red again. He didn't eat his tea earlier either. I asked for a thermometre as he just seemed too hot & he was - 38.8! I told James I had to bring him home so he dropped us home & went back. I gave Oscar some Dymadon, stripped him down to a nappy & singlet and sat with him but his temp still wasn't down 45 mins later. I rang the hospital and spoke to a nurse as he was really miserable by now & she said sponge him down with tepid water & check aging when it's one hour from when he got the medication. Still wasn't down so I rang her back & she said come in. So I got some stuff together & drove in. Oscar went to sleep as soon as the car started & by the time we got there his temp was down! The midwife I saw said she would get the doc in if I wanted but he would just tell me there was nothing wrong & go home. She said it's teething. Now I have been told by a few nurses that teething doesn't cause high temps & I told her this, she said her 2nd child got temps with every tooth. So we came home.
He slept ok after we got home at middnight but he wasn't right. We had to go to mum's as Jack was there anyway so we packed up and went. I swear he had a bug of some sort too - you know how you just know? Anyway he's getting better now, still a little sooky & tired but no more temps. And he has slept through the last 2 nights to 5 & 6! Yay!
So Oscar started saying mum on Sunday!!!! YAY!!!! He only says it when he's upset but that's better than saying everything but mum! lol! And he says Jack very clearly now, James didn't believe that he says it until he heard it for himself last night.
Well, best be off. Had a meeting online for my business this morning and haven't got anything done yet!
Hope everyone is well! xxoo

Teething can cause hi temps.  If the ear canals get blocked ( all part of the process) a secondary infection can occur.  It does usually sort itself out though.  Every child is different too and they react in different ways.  some just go pop, pop, pop and the teeth are there no probs and others fuss and cry and get sick with it all.  Poor baby, hope it gets better for him and for you too.

Thanks Arna, he is better now just hoping he stays that way. We are positive he had a bug as well as he was a bit sicky and wouldn't eat solids, but he's back to normal now. and one of his teeth is almost through!

Hi Cazza! Yes it was nice to get a good nurse & one that we know well. I was sure they could get temps with their teeth but as Jack didn't and a few nurses had told me they don't I wasn't sure & we are positive he had a bug also as he was not very well. One of his teeth is almost through now & he is ok.
