Since I have a blog here, figured I might use it and would start with the birth of Lucas and Dillon Couldn't think of a better starting point. Copied and pasted this from what I already had saved
I can't believe I am at home with my two boys :) I was not expecting to deliver them the other night, a huge shock :) Figured I would quickly share the birth story before it is time for a feeding :)
Saturday morning (3/8/08) I called the birthing center at 5:45am to let them know I was having bloody show(ok so watch out for too much info), which is where there is blood mix with the mucus plug. They told me to keep an eye on it, and to come in if it got worse or contractions became regular. I was fine all day. We decided to invite my father in law and brother in law over for dinner, Chad was making lasagna. We ate. I ate a lot of course lol I went and laid down thinking my stomach hurt from eating too much. After a few minutes I realized it had nothing to do with eating. I called the birthing center to explain the pains I was feeling, they told me to call the on call doc and he would probably have me come in. I called him, he did say to come in to just check to see what was going on. So in we went.
We got to the birthing center at 8:30pm. I was just about 2cm dilated. The doc did a quick ultrasound to make sure both boys were still head down. They were. I was having contractions every 6 minutes. He said he wasn't sure if I was in real labor that they would monitor me for a few hours and then decide.
Well the contractions got closer together and hurt worse. I started getting a lot of back pain. They checked me again, I was about 3 cm. The doc still wasn't sure I was in labor(this is not my normal doctor). He asked me if I thought it was labor...I said yes.
So I kept getting the contractions monitored. At 11:30pm, 3 hours after we got to the birthing center, my water broke....boy did ever break lol So I guess at this point the doctor realized I was in labor LOL They already knew I wanted an epidural, so they called up the people to give me that and to get the team together. Because of twins I was to deliver in the OR. Two doctors(one being my normal ob), two pediatricians, a handful of nurses, a set up for vaginal delivery and one for c-sections(just in case).
I got my epi at 12:30am on 3/9/08. I was checked again and the nurse who checked me said she couldn't feel any cervix, only a baby's head, so I got wheeled to the OR.
Once in the OR they were trying to get stuff together, and to get the teams there. I had to push. I asked if I could, the doc told me no, that we needed to wait at least ten minutes for the other doctors....I couldn't not push....I told him I was pushing and I did.
At 1:42am, with one push, and with the doctor rushing in to put on gloves and saying "Oh Shit! out came Lucas William M weighing in at 4 lbs 15oz and 17 inches long. I told the doc I had to push....I guess now he will believe it when women say they need to push LOL He came out crying and very active :)
Just then my doc showed up and he took over for the second baby. He did have to break my water for the second baby which shocked me b/c I lost so much fluid when my water had broke earlier in the evening.
I gave a few pushes, Chad says about five and Dillon Lewis M was born weighing 6 lbs 5 ozs and 19 inches long. Dillon was born at 3:11am.
Now if you look at the times it looks like 1 hour 29 minutes was the time between the boys being born. But we can not forget that the clocks were changing and as I pushed, they did, so the boys were actually only born 29 minutes apart :)
Lucas came out really without too many issues. Dillon's muscle tone was off. After about two hours Lucas started holding his breath, but didn't do that for too long. They were in my room before 5am. They were having their first sips of water and formula at 5am.
I can't believe that my boys came when they did or how well they did and are doing. I was 35 weeks 6 days pregnant. Even with Lucas being so tiny, he is doing so good. I expected for them to have to go to the NICU or to have to stay in the regular nursery for a bit, but nope!!!!!! |
