My Recent Gifts

Poor vanilabeanbaby has no gifts, brighten up their day with a present.

Me and My Family

I am a 29 year old stay at home wife and mom with a daughter, Vanessa, who will be 6 month old at the end of November.  None of my friends have kids so I really don't have anyone to talk to who can relate to my situation or offer any advice.

Ranting

How do you deal with crazy people??  I have what I would like to believe are well intetnioned in-laws who thank goodness live in Portugal a nearly 24 hour trip away from us, but they still can drive me to want to drink!  Yesterday we had our weekly chat with them via telephone and my mother-in-law as usual got all emotional when talking to me about Vanessa and had to go.  When I handed the phone back to my husband though, she got back on the phone and 'suggested' to my husband that we send Vanessa to them and they will look after her until she has to start school.  Okay so who in their right mind would think for even a second that that would be not only a viable option but a sane one?  What I don't get is that she has had children of her own, where does she even get the balls to ask me to send her MY kid??  Secondly it makes me feel like they don't think we can or are capable of raising our own kid.  Luckly for her my husband didn't tell me about the suggestion until after he got off the phone with her.  At first I think I was just dumbfounded that someone would even suggest something like that but the more and more I think about it the more and more I want to call her up and rip her a new one!  My husband thinks it is funny and doesn't get why I am so offended.  I get that they miss Vanessa and want to be a part of her life but if you want to have a baby, go and have another one of your own, adopt or something... don't think your going to get mine!!  Okay, I think I am done.....rant over.

Wow

Who knew that a kid weighing in at only 18 lbs could puke so much in such a short period of time and so far !?   Vanessa caught a stomach virus that caused her to throw up and just be plain miserable for the past 2 days.  Being and overly concerned mom and not knowing what to do when she started vomiting every 20 min I took her straight to the emergency room and thank goodness because even if they couldn't really do anything for her but try to help me keep her hydrated, they helped me from totally loosing it!  Also, because of our trip to the emergency room we met a great pediatric doctor that surprisingly was in our area AND ACCEPTING new patience which is so hard to come by these days.  So the little one is finally sleeping soundly, hopfully for the night and is just starting to get her appetite back.  Now maybe mommy and daddy can catch a few winks :-)

First Cold

Comment Published at 09:5509:551 comments1 comments78 Visits78 VisitsReport

It finally happened.  Vanessa has got her first cold along with the rest of us.  We are all miserable and feel like pooh which makes every thing that much more of a chore.  We also got in a parking lot fender bender this week.  Some guy decided not to check any of his mirors before backing into my car.  Most of the damage was done to his mini van and Vanessa didn't even wake up from the bump we took so no harm done, just an inconvenience more than anything, we definately didn't get the Christmas shopping finished off like we were hoping to that day!

Today she decided that she didn't need her morning nap and surprisingly is still happy as we move into hour four of being awake.  Normally she can only stand to be awake for 2-3 hours at a time before needing a nap.  I can't blame her though it is hard to sleep when you can't really breath through your nose

One of THOSE weeks

Comment Published at 11:5311:530 comments0 comments107 Visits107 VisitsReport
Yep, it has been quite a stressful week.  Vanessa is teething and has decided that she needs to get up at least 3 times in the middle of the night.  For the first couple of nights I tried comforting her and laying with her which didn't work at all beacuse she decided once she was picked up that she wanted to be up and that it should be play time.  By night 2 I decided that once she started to cry I would just go in and cover her back up, let her know that I was there and that everything was okay and then left her to cry herself back to sleep.  It worked eventually, the first night of this she cried off and on for about an hour each episode.  The last couple of nights I have just let her cry and then go in and check on her and cover her up when I am sure that she is sleeping.  Last night though, I think she caught on to my trick and last night every time I thought she had gone to sleep and went in to cover her up there she was wide awake waiting quietly until of course until I left the room and went back to my own bed.  Before this week,Vanessa had been sleeping through the night (8pm to 8am) but this week she is up at least 3 times a night and by 6am, forget about it, she will NOT go back to sleep, she will cry (if she is left to) until 8am.  Now I am not sure if it is just because she is teething or because now she knows that if she cries long  enogh one of us will cave in. All I do know for sure is that I am exhausted and need SLEEP!!
