On Monday my 14 yr old daughter was participating in Gym (playing football) and the ball hit her middle finger on her left hand. I looked at it when I got home from work and said that she had more than likely bruised it, sprained it or disclocated it. We went to the store and bought a splint and some tape and proceded to repair the damage.
Well being a teenager, mom knows nothing and her friends insisted that it was broken. I said ok, lets go to the hospital and have them check it out. I told her that even if it was broken, that all they would do was put a splint on it, which I had already done.
After sitting at the urgent care for two and a half hours the doctor said the same thing I did, but ordered xrays anyway. Apparently she has a floating flake but it was beautifully aligned thanks to my splint. (he said this) He put another kind of splint on it and sent us on our way.
The school required a medical excuse for her not to be able to participate in gym (using her hands) even though they could see the splint and the bruise, so I guess going to the hospital was a good thing anyway. The downside was, my daughters new Gym Shirt (school required) was stolen out of her basket on Tuesday, so now I have to buy another one or pay .25 cents a day to wear a rental one. The school said they are not responsible. I think it should be replaced as I had originally purchased one for $15 and since it was not her fault, they should replace. Its not as if she lost it or wrecked it, it was stolen from school property. Oh well, that is my week so far.
My husband informed me he has to work out of town this weekend so there goes Thanksgiving dinner. It is shaping up to be an interesting week for next. |
