It's been like 2 or 3 years that we've been doing this, my son has a money box and we only let him opened it on his birthday which was on boxing day (26 December). It's amazing how much money you could put away/saving for as little as $2/week. Last year (2006) we counted that he got $100. We've said to him that he could spend $50 for anything that he really wanted and saved $50 toward his saving account in the bank*. He was so excited and he chose to get another star wars transformer (Jango Fett one).
This year, I'm starting to do the same thing for my daughter as well. We will do the same thing that both of them will allow to open their money box and the end of year.
*note: After we counted all the coins at home, and put them in separate bags, My son and I went to the bank and change the coins to paper money. He was so proud to get a $50 note (since we put the other $50 to his bank account). |
