DO YOU REALLY NEED A CREDIT CARD? |

Are there people out there who would like the convenience of a credit card without the temptation of overspending and paying high interest rates?
Do you know you can get a Visa debit card through most financial institutions? With a Visa debit you have all the benefits of having
a credit card. You can pay your bills online, link it to your paypal account, make online purchases. If you need to purchase train or plane tickets you can do it over the phone or online.
The only difference is you can't spend money you don't have. You can only spend money you already have in your account. So technically it is a credit card that you use like a debit card. You still have to be careful with security as anybody can steal your details but in that case they would not be able to go beyond what is in your nominated account. And you have to make sure your account has the available funds before making a payment with your card.
Another thing I like about it is I don't pay any annual fee. I'm not sure if all institutions are the same but my credit union doesnt charge me any fees to have it.
I decided to get a Visa debit because I didnt want the temptation of having a credit card, but I wanted it so I could make instant payments through paypal. Although you can still have a paypal account without having a credit card.
I know there are some who can use a credit card actually to their advantage and never pay any interest. To those, Well Done.
I know myself, that it would be easy for me to fall into the trap of using a credit card as a backup when I''m having a tight week and I end up buying extra food and stuff that I could probably scrape by without. I know. I've had a credit card before. Once you get the balance up a bit and start paying interest it can be very hard to get on top of.
My belief is don't spend money you don't have on everyday items. If your worried about an emergency, put a little bit aside every week and don't touch it.
