When young girls are at an age when body image is a big issue it is important to talk to them about the importance of they endless dieting and how to break this habit as this is something we have all gone through I'm sure. My daughter is very consious
of the differences between her and other girls and those ridicolous images that they print in magazines. I had to talk to my daughter about these issues and reasure her that we all can not be stick models.Everyone is different I have taught her that not to be on continious diets instead our outlook is a healthy way of life eating the right foods and of course you can still have some foods in moderation and excercise and not to the extreme a 30 minute walk a day is just as healthy. Also let them no that if they have a look at the other women in their family and realise the similarities and that if the are not of slim build that they probably won't be either but to embrace this as a good thing and be happy with who they are and that being ultra thin is not something to aspire too that their is more to you then your apperance. Also my dauhgter has a friend who is very slim but this is in her makeup and she is very self concious of people thinking she is suffering some eating disorder which she isn't so this is an issue no matter what your size but it is very important to stress that what your outside image is that it does not define who you are.It is also very important to keep an eye on them at this time just incase any problems do develop as their are alot of outside pressures form magazines, peers, and other media and if you think their is a problem it is wise to seek medical help. Boys can also suffer from these issues as well so lets not forget them they are under just as much pressure these days with body image.
