Baby Led Weaning

Baby Led Weaning

The guidelines on when and what you should feed your child as you wean have changed over the years. Now it is recommended you don't start solids til at least 6 months. At this stage runny baby rice may not be suitable especially as they may

have teeth and enjoy putting other things with in their mouth!
Taste is a a wonderful sense to have. Breastmilk (or alternative) should continue to be baby's main food source until at least 12 months age. So baby doesn't need to fill up on solids just yet. I believe its important that a baby weans at their own pace.
Giving your child finger foods and allowing them to experience self feeding early on can help make eating an enjoyable time.

Re: Baby Led Weaning

Hi!  I did baby led weaning with B without knowing there was a name for it until a friend commented on it.  From about 4-5mths she was literally asking for food, trying to take it off my plate.  At 5 1/2mths I caved in and gave her rice cereal, she wolfed it down and started asking for more.  She just took food off our plates and we gave her bits of different types.  I think I only gave her "baby food" a handful of times and she really was just eating what we ate at her own pace.  It was so different to what I tried with her brother (who hated baby food and didn't really eat solids until 10mths) which was so structured and regimented - much easier and more natural.
