Question:

My partner and are having a disagreement on when to toilet train our 16mth old boy.  He thinks we should start now, and I think later, like when he can talk to us and tell us he

has done wees and poos.

When is the correct age? and is 16mths too young to toilet train?

My Advice:  Boys and girls are very different when toilet training, stastically girls are ready earlier.  However chn need to be ready for toilet training and show signs of being ready ie, know when they are wet or dry, take an interest in the potty or toilet and tell you when they are wet or dry.  If toilet training is done too early or harped upon chn tend to regress later on.  In my experience it is easier to wait untill your son is ready - Does it really matter that he is not trained yet.  Pay little attention to any mishaps if yu do train now as this will cause regression and a frightness of the toilet or potty.  Boys generally tell you when they are ready and if you let them do this with suttle hints over time, it will be a successful experience.  Let Dad take him to the toilet with him for a while so he knows what males do this is important as a male bonding also and your son when ready will want to copy daddy.  But don't stress, it will happen when he is ready.
