Re: Organic eating
Asked by singlemommcdeez

Question:
Hi there, quick question, How will I get my children to eat organically & healthy and what type of healthy meals should they eat other than those fatty foods and vegetables?

My Advice:

Through necesity (recovering from bowel cancer) I was recently put onto a diet that was low in yeast and high in organic replacements.

I am at best the most picky easter (and so are my children) so this WAS NOT an easy thing to convert too.  I also found, as mentioned before, that once you put the word organic into something, the price sky rockets, and being a single father of 3, that hurts.

There are 2 ways to go about it.  Either go fully sick and have EVERYTHING organic. or just go part way.  This second option is where I am now and I am enjoying my food (and so is my digestive tract)

Two major changes that arent changes at all is in dairy and sugar.

I buy Pura Parmalat (Thats the Australian brand) milk.  It is certified organic and is unhomoginised.  It digests very easily.  I get the low fat one.  The kids cant tellthe difference and neither can I.

Secondly I sue a sugra supplement.  Not Nutra Sweet or any of those.  The stuff I use is Xylatol.  It is derived from corn cobs or banboo or other plants.  Its has something like 2 or 3 calories per spoon and again, you can't tell the difference.  It looks like sugar, and tastes like sugar.  It is quite expensive bu worth it.

I find Organic eggs far too expensive so I use free range, grain fed eggs.  More expenive than regular but better tasting and better for you.

Rye bread, or light riy may not be organic but is better than white bread.  I prefer multigrain but my insides didn't.

But the moral of the story is, look at the nutritional info on the items you bye.  If there is an organic alternative try it.  The kids don't need to know its organic.  Supplement everyday items for the good stuff without them knowing and when they question you, tell them they have been eating for 3 weeks and din't know the difference. It worked for my 3  kids.

I've lost a lot of weight since I cut sugar out and feel loads better.  But the main thing is, apart from cost, my diet is not really any different.

Hope that all helps.
