Allergies

joburkey by joburkey Standing(November 2008) (rank 500+)

I know from personal experience how serious allergies can be as i have suffered from them and so doesmy little one, lucky for me i'm prepared and know exactly how to curb them. A word of advice, ensure that you have a good allergy specialist as this is essential, tests

for allergies are important to determine how serious or in my case, how fatal they can be. I know it can be a pain to see you child under go skin prick tests or other tests but it is very necessary.

Once foods/items are identified the next step is to remove them from your house especially if it is a fatal allergy.

Second step is ensure that you inform all people about your child's allergy and the serious of it, tell all friends, neighbours, teachers, babysitters, child care minders family as it is essential that they are also reminded of this too, this ensure that if your child goes to someone elses house

If the allergy can be fatal and requires an epipen, antihistamines or other medication, then you must also train others on what to do in an emergency situation as this will help your child if anything were to happen if you were not there or if in deed you yourself panics

Next is to keep yourself informed, there are some allergies nowwhere they can improve them through a serious of injections.

Keep an eye out for other unidentified allergies, i myself and my brother have found that over time things we weren't allergic to initially, we are now allergic.

Teach you child about the allergy no matter how young they are, it is important that they know that they cannot eat/touch etc things they are allergic too. My mother drilled this into me from avery young age to prevent any attacks i might have. make sure that they know why they can't eat it, because of how serious it is, don't just say they can't have it, the more you would say that the more they want it, therefore explain why and then they will learn to understand the consequences.

hope this helps

Re: Allergies

Great advice, even with dilegence on the parents part it is hard to get everyone to understand, and beleive what you are saying, I filled out forms at my daughters school and told her teacher, the cafeteria workers and her, yet she still got orange juice in the morning and became very ill within minutes.  Lucky for me it is  not life threatning, but it just shows mistakes happen.  I was ready to pin a note to her shirt that said NO ORANGE!!!
