The most important thing about choosing first birthday party games is in finding those that everyone can play together. In this selection of first birthday games, you're sure to find just that!
Race to Ten
This stacking game will have the guest of honor giggling right along
with the other guests – kids and grownups alike! Babies and toddlers can play with an older sibling or adult to give them a hand.
To set up, provide each team with ten blocks and a spot on the floor. To play, the older member of the duo simply tries to stack all ten blocks up, one on top of the other. The difficulty lies with the little one in the pair, who will no doubt try to knock down or take the blocks before the tenth one makes it to the pile. Don't be surprised if this one gets a little wild – babies love the stacking game! The first team to have all ten blocks in a single stack before they're knocked down wins.
Off to the Races
What could be cuter than a crawling race for little ones? Try these first birthday party games for more family fun!
To play this simple game, put your birthday boy or girl at one end of a room with other playing party guests of a similar age. Position adults or older siblings on the other side of the room with Mylar balloons or other tempting treats. (Don't use latex balloons because, if popped, they're very dangerous for babies and young children). Once the “race” begins, the older players should call and encourage toddlers and babies to come to them. The first child across the finish line wins.
This is a fun choice of 1st birthday party games because there's plenty of opportunity for the whole family to get involved! If you have children in several age groups at the party, schedule other heats for different ages. Don't make it too easy for them, though! Require silly race positions such as crab walking (on their hands and feet with their bellies up) or elephant walking (on their hands and feet with the belly facing down).
Many first birthday party games are more for the adults than the babies, but these games will let the little ones in on the fun of the big day, just like the big kids!
