car games for older kids 1

JadieLady by JadieLady Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 30th)

MIrror.

What happens when you look in a mirror?

you see yourself. reversed. a reversed image of yourself.

What happens when you reverse a word?

find words that have a meaning when backwards

ie stab- bats.

give a point for each letter in the

word.

its simple, and kids will want to beat their other siblings!

be sure to make clear that the word has a different meaning when backwards

ie dad- dad.

this is another game altogether. see if yur kids can come up with one of these with 5 letters in it!

Eye spy can be very educational

Eye spy can be very educational you just have to change the criteria
You can use it to help your child develop many early literacy skills such as:
rhyming eg "I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with look",
first sound knowledge eg "I spy with my little eye something that starts with 'sh',"
last sound eg "I spy with my little eye something that ends with 'b'".

Great ideas!
Our youngest is finally at an age where he can participate in 'normal' eye spy ( we have spent a lot of time playing "I spy something coloured "..." )

Educational
having a small thumb flick dictionary would be a good idea for this game too, make them look up the word they're thinking of themselves for correct spelling.

Learning without them knowing it.........Love Your Work jade
