getting rid of lice

odwyerba by odwyerba In Nappies(November 2008) (rank 500+)

It's laborious but it works this way getting tid of head lice....

Buy one of those magnifying set of eye glasses from the chemist (they're is a thin cylinder). They're not prespcription though if you wear glasses.  Then buy the biggest magnifying glass you can find ($2 dollar shops

or craft shops have them).  Then we get BanLice (a foam spray) from the chemist and use it once a week (follow the directions, and massage it in right to the scalp and all thorugh the hair). It's a bit messay a urky, and my 7yr old girl cries when its on, but its worth it.  It only takes 15 minutes.  Then use any old conditioner provided it is a white cream one.  Put just a little bit on the heair and use a metal lice comb (form the chemist) and comb through every part of the hair systematically from the roots to the end.  Use paper towel to wipe the lice comb after each comb of the hair and you will see lice and eggs (they're tiny) on the paper towel.  Then wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.

Then wait for it to dry completely, and then use the magnifying glasses and magnifying glass  tge(in good light) and check every strand of hair, expecaiily at the napoe of the neck (at the back), on the cron, on the fringer and around the ears.  When yo find a white dot or a grey tiny creature/smudge, remove it with your two finger nails, pulling it all the way down the strand of hair to remove it.  They are sticky, so it takes perseverance.

The weekly banlice washing and combing can take up to an hour. The checking of dry hair can take up to an hour, depending on the type of hair.

You have to do the checking of dry hair every day until they are gone, and then every week until you are absolutely sure they are gone.  Even one lice or egg (the little white dots) can reinfect realy quickly, and of course you can do this and it works and then the nect day your darling gets lice from another chld at school again.

It's a myth you have to keep them away from school until treated...makes no difference.\ (of ocurse, you have to respect your school's policy).

It is a big effort, but it does work, and your little angel will hate it at first, but you can make the dry hair checking a bit of fun.  We sing anti lice songs and play the opposites game (where we pretend we love lice and want more of them to come to the party).

Good luck!

Bernie

Re: getting rid of lice

I can really relate to your story. I spent literally MONTHS getting my daughter clean of lice, she kept getting reinfected! I tried everything and keeping a four year old still is near impossible. I would spend hours and hours on her hair and finally this is what I learned. The cheap white conditioner is best as you said and also keeping your childs hair dirty for school/ daycare/ whatever. Wash their hair on Friday nights, and keep long hair tied up. I also found K.P - 24 solution to be extremely good. After one application the nits were gone and have not returned. I hope I am not out of place by saying this. It is just what works for each individual person.
