unwanted babies

MandyW by MandyW Walking(November 2008) (rank 466th)

i dont know if this is a trend everywhere, but in our area, there is not a day that goes by, that you dont read of a newborn baby that was dumped in a river, sewerage, on a field, in a bin, even newborn babies that were stabbed and dumped.

some people can read those stories without even the slightest emotion. i find that sad. until a few years ago, i thought i would never have kids off my own, but stories like that, made tears flow down my cheeks freely, especially when i was pregnant. my thought was always "how can a mother get it over her heart to do something like that?" i know sometimes circumstances are not ideal, you are scared or alone, there are other options. so many couples want a baby so badly, but cant have any children. please, give that little baby a chance at a name and a life. God has a purpose and plan with all our lives. there are so many adoption agencies and welfare organisations. please, if anybody is even considering dumping or killing a baby, please rethink your decision. dumping might sound like a perfect solution at the time, but i can guarantee that that act will haunt you for life. i've met people who regrets doing what they did. Please, you are a mother, do the right thing, an act of love and kindness, giving a child a home and a childless couple a family of their own. God Bless and guide you

Re: unwanted babies

I simply don't understand why girls and women don't deal with their unwanted pregnancies differently. If they don't feel that abortion is an option for them, definitely give the child up for adoption. Where I live, there are usually about 6 babies available per year for adoption, and you can bet there are many, many couples who would like to adopt them. Nobody is forcing these mothers to keep their babies. What makes someone think that dumping and/or killing their baby is the only solution?

Re: unwanted babies

I know when it happened in the Walmart here, it was a lady with a severe developmental delay. Apparently, she didn't know she was pregnant, or what that really meant. So she just put the baby in the garbage... Sad and aweful.

It is true most people here know what their options are use them... We still get babies for whom no planning is done, and they are blessed to get names before they enter care... I'm thankful I've not had a BG doe or a BB doe on my caseload, but it happens.

Also, MandyW is in South Africa, and i have no idea if services such as adoption and foster care work the same... In my expereince, mothers everywhere have compassion for their babies, and do the very best they know how... To me the scary part of this is what kind of world we live in that the best thing a mother can think of to give her baby is death... That's hard.

Re: unwanted babies

I hate to say it guys, but this is why i don't watch television, or keep up with the news much. With my line of work, it just hurts too much to have situatons I can't personally change. I guess I'm too used to being able to help...

Re: unwanted babies

I agree, not my line of work, but I still struggle to watch the news.  If there is ever a way to make a change then giving a life a chance is a good place to start.  Shame parents can't always think clearly in the heat of the moment when they feel that their only option is to do as detailed in the article above.  Breaks my heart for the parents as well as the children

Peace

Re: unwanted babies

Oh how that would hurt!  I understand your pain- that's why places here talk about safe places like hospitals where people can take their babies with minimal paperwork etc. And yet they're not really needed here- we get a horror story of it every few years= there was a baby found in the garbage at Walmart a while back. But to hear of that on a regular basis= no wonder your heart cries! That's something they should look at there= if people aren't using safe turn in places, then there's too much paperwork, stigma or other barriers, and they really need to be addressed!

Re: unwanted babies

i know, but i can guarantee in today's newspaper there's more, sometimes you hear about 4 or 5 babies dumped in 1 day, in the same area! its sad & i cant handle news like that, poor innocent, defenseless babies, who didnt ask to be here in the first place
