Cloth on a newborn |

My youngest is now 2 months old and not so tiny anymore but I do vaguely remember him being small! He at least started out small. I had a few options to try out when nappying him. Flats cut in half were easy as I just used a PUL wrap
over the flats folded in three (trifold). Same with prefolds though these may be more absorbent. Absorbency is usually not an issue with newborns as you tend to change them more often. What is more of an issue is containment of poo explosions. For this I advise PUL covers with gussets. I also used fleece covers which covered generously. I was less fond of wool covers til he got bigger and somewhat less messy! He became a big wetter quickly so I appreciated a wool cover at night.
I had so many nappies and covers for J. I tried half flats, muslin and flanelette flats, prefolds, snappiable fitteds, and all-in-ones. I didn't try pockets.
Snappiable fitteds and prefolds worked best. The all-in-one I liked was Rumpsters. All-in-ones with velcro are very easy and resemble a disposable. I liked PUL covers with gussets.I had soaker sacks I knitted but I didn't really like using them.I did like the shoaker I knitted from Bec's pattern (available on Ravelry). I made an 8ply version which was perfect for the early weeks. I preferred that for nights.
Please keep in mind all babies come in different shapes and sizes. Also preferences vary also. I just wanted to share my experience cloth nappying my newborn in mcn.
