my birthing story

karleigh by karleigh Standing(November 2008) (rank 500+)

I was 17 y/o when i gave birth to my little princess and i thought it was going to be the most beautiful experience ever [oh boy was i wrong]

I started having contractions on the day that i was due [saturday] my parents took me to the hospital

and we found out i was only 2 cm dilated so they sent me home and just told me to rest.

I spent until tuesday in and out of baths and trying to get some sleep but by tuesday night i couldnt handle it anymore so we went back to the hospital and they told me i was only 3 cm dilated and sent me back home!!!

I got no sleep at all and by thursday evening i was in agony so i went to the hospital again and told them i diodnt care how many cm i was dilated im not leaving the hospital [i was still onloy three cm] so they hooked me up to the machines and i thought finally this is going to happen and then all of a sudden my baby went into distress so the doctors came to me and told me they wanted to take a sample from bubs head to make sure she was fine well that was not ok with the state i was in i thought that would hurt my baby so i wouldnt let them do it the midwife told me if i didnt let them do it then i didnt care for my child [lovely]

The doctors came in and attached a monitor to bubs head and to my heart cause by this time we were both in distress thenthe midwifes told my parents that i would need to get an emergency c-sectionand they were going to prep me. When my mother told me i freaked out big time as i was only 17 all i knew about emergency c-sections is that something was not good at all.

The doctor came in an gave me an epidural [i hadnt had any drugs till this stage as i wanted a natural birth] and i almost passed out as i have an extreme phobia against needles so they told me to squeeze my mothers hand when they were giving me the needle and my mum almost passed out because i was squeezing her hand so tight .

the doctor gave me one last look before they were going to take me to theatre and realised the baby was coming right now. I couldnt feel the contractions because of the epidural but i could definetly feel the head of my baby coming out.

I was s0o relieved that i didnt have to have an emergency c-section that i was smiling the entire 22 mins i was pushing my daughter out and once she was out i burst into tears and couldnt stop saying how much i loved her.

I needed stitches so they took my baby to the side to check on her because she had been in distress for so long but she was perfectly healthy apart from having club feet [which i knew about beforehand anyway] she was perfect.

My daughter is now 2 years old and is still in regular plaster from her feet and needs another operation next year but other then that she is doing great and i am expecting again in 7 weeks so i just hope that my labour wont be as eventful.

I hope my story helps others who are scared about labour but as long as at the end of the day you and bub are both fine there is really nothing to worry about no matter what you go through just remember that it will get better and it will eventually be over.
