scary stuff

youngmama by youngmama Crawling(December 2008) (rank 500+)

never leave your baby alone on any high objects i learned that the hard way. when they say you'll never know when they will roll over they're serious i thought i knew how far my daughter could but i was wrong. i thougt she could only roll from front to

back today i learned she can roll from front to back from back to front and in any direction possible i am happy i caught her before it was too late. but that is was the scariest thing i have experienced so far and hopefully the last. and i will never leave her alone on a bed ever no matter where i am or what  im doing she's too preciuos to me

Re: scary stuff

Most nights, I co-sleep with my baby for sanity's sake (and the rest of the families).  I know she is a roller, so I have taken all the spare pillows (quite hard to push around or roll over them) and put them all around the bed in an effort to prevent her falling off.  Worked so far, only thing is, now there is no room for me and it is a pain in the butt when I have to get up at 2 am to pee! lol.

Great reminder though.  Thanks for sharing.

Re: scary stuff

I reckon I must be jumping between mine all night even when asleep because I wake up 2 kg lighter and feeling as though i've just completed a marathon! lol.

Realistically, we can't watch our kids 24/7, as we need the toilet and to sleep (amongst other things), so it just comes down to common sense as to where we leave them.

the other thing is, we have to be careful to not be over protective as well or we will end up with worry wart kids (my nana was a classic worry wart! lol.  And I played on it too ;0)

Kids are kids, and mine, no matter if I had 10 metre high gates or not, are going to find a way over them (or under them?????).

Re: scary stuff

With ours, even the floor and her bed are becoming hazards! lol.  She's so big when she goes side ways in  bed, she gets stuck and when on the floor, is great at rolling under the couch! lol.  hhhmmm, is any where safe these days!

Thanks for the reminder to never leave a baby unattended on a bed or high places.

Re: scary stuff

I had Katelyn in the bed with me during the week and we were sleeping, But she woke and I didnt hear her until she hit the floor with an allmighty thump and cried her little eyes out. I felt so bad. Ill never leave her on the bed by herself and ill put her back in her cat after the 5am feed.

Re: scary stuff

I know how you feel.

A few months ago I left my little one in her high chair and took 2 steps across the room to answer the phone, in that time she twisted around to see what I was doing & must have done it with such strength that she toppled the high chair & went head first onto the floor with high chair on top. This happened in the space of seconds, right in front of my eyes & I couldn't catch her in time.

Needless to say we had a trip to hospital, a hysterical mother & a child who had no mark on her, no adverse effects & was nicknamed "commando baby" by docs & nurses in pediatric er.

I still have the guilts about this & have been told over & over that these things happen & to forgive myself, but it is hard. I've now decided it is a learning experience & the phone doesn't get answered unless we are OK & lil one doesn't get left alone for a second in the high chair, on the change table, on a lounge or a bed.

Oh dear-it could have gone seriously bad but hey at least she is ok and please don't feel guilty about this as it can happen at ay time, we can't watch them 100%!

Re: scary stuff

I am glad your daughter is ok.  The same thing happened to me and it is very scary - you  can never under estimate their ability to do any thing.  This is great advice.
