Taking Advice/Routine

mummyjade by mummyjade In Nappies(December 2008) (rank 500+)

There is one thing that I can say that has a been a blessing for me when I had my first child was routine.  I was told right from the beginning start a routine with your son.

I was told dont listen to ppls advice by others while I

would have to say the older generation of ppl around me said take all the advice you can get, which of course my partner and I are thankful for.

The first night we had our precious little man home was exhausting for me.  I had just had my first night with my little man in hospital as he had just been in Special Care for 4 days (which was heartbreaking) so was very tired.  We decided straight from the first night he was with us we would stick to a routine.  From about 6ish he would have a bath, bottle then into his bassinet.  Sometimes it seemed it wasnt working, but we kept being persistant.  By Age 6 weeks he still wasnt sleeping all the way through the night, (so wandering if it was his fathers snoring that kept him awake), put him into his cot for the first night.   After about 5 hours my body just naturally woke up to check on him, and he was still asleep (he would normally wake up 3 to 4 hourly).  Hmm I thought. and being a mother I naturally stressed about him sleeping so long as he hadnt done that b4 (isnt that weird everytime we want them to sleep they dont and when they do we worry there is something wrong), went into his room to check on him and he was sleeping soundly, so I left him and went back to sleep.  8 am came and wow he had slept all through the night.  and from then on he has slept 12 hours a night (some of u r saying lucky u).

I would just like to say, take advice from ppl who have been there and done that.  Some advice may not work, but if it did arent u glad u took it.

Re: Taking Advice/Routine

We keep the night time routine very consistent for our 7 month old and this includes having a bath and massage.  It has worked a treat since she was about 2 1/2 months old for getting her down to sleep with no fuss and sleeping through the night.  She now associates having a bath so strongly with going down for her 'big' sleep that when I took her for her first swim the other day, she must have seen it as a big bath because I actually had to wake her up from her afternoon nap after 2  1/2 hours.  This has also happened if I've had to give her a quick bath during the day if she's had one of those nappies that's ended up everywhere.
