Re: At what age should kids be able to start earning an allowance?
Asked by Philosopher13
Question:
My eldest is four and becoming increasingly helpful around the house. I would also like to start teaching him about money, but I wasn't
sure if it was too young for the whole allowance thing. And does anyone have any ideas for "chores" he has to do to get one. I want him to do things not just to get a reward, but because it's the right thing to do too.
My Advice:
My son started to earn his allowance when he was only three. I myself and his sister's taught him, if you give a little you get a alot back. So we got in and made him a rewards chart. You put the days of the week on it, and a list of thing jobs for him to do each day, you can do this for any child that understands about helping around the house. even if you put every job down, for 10 cents. and you put a star on the job that he does on that job. And let him know what each star means to him. An all so let him know when the big day his. PAY DAY. Try and to get a pay day they will remember. My boy's pay day is when his father walks in from walk and his him a hot wheel's car. for helping him out the back every week end. But I your child plays up, do not punish them with the chart, as they will not want anything to do with it at all. Because you can not expect your child to be good all the time. I this sounds ok, I tried to explain it the best I could. It works for my boy.He even earn up to $5 one down and he was so proud of himself. anyway give it ago with all your children.
