Bad nappy rash

325janie by 325janie In Nappies(December 2008) (rank 500+)

there have been times with my four little ones where they had a REALLY bad nappy rash. Bepenthin and other creams did not seem to help.  When it gets really red and sore I found (as advised by my GP) that Canasten applied sparingly cleared up the worst of them

within a couple of days.  I always have a tube just in case.

Remember that it is no longer advisable to use baby powder as there have been studies possibly linking the use of baby powder with ovarian cancer. That is why you no longer find it in maternity wards.

Re: Bad nappy rash

I have in the past put cooking oats in a stocking and soaked in the bath there is a bath wash on the market (not sure of the name) but it is made from oats it just costs way more than buying oats from the supermarket. I found this worked really well for my boy.

Re: Bad nappy rash

If you have babies who are susceptible to bad nappy rash, it is sometimes acidic urine that is the cause.  Make sure they drink a good amount of water each day.

My daughter was one of those bubs who had no sign of it at one nappy change, and her skin was almost raw at the next.  Usually worse when teething too.  I found the best preventative measure was not to use ANY cream or lotion, but to wash her with tepid water, so removing all traces of urine from the skin, and let her "air dry" for a while before putting another nappy on.

Re: Bad nappy rash

just thought id add that this is on the label

Ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice
• before treating yourself, as many skin infections have similar signs and symptoms,
• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding,
• if you are using other things to treat your skin condition, including other medicines, creams or ointments you may have bought at your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON BABIES EXCEPT UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION.

Re: Bad nappy rash

Unless the nappy rash is diagnosed as caused by a candida infection, you probably shouldn't self diagnose by using medicated creams without professional advice.  This product has only been available over the counter at the pharmacies in Australia for a few years, therefore I wouldn't recommend using it on a baby without instruction from a Doctor.

Re: Bad nappy rash

I have always used Daktozin when bubs bum was really bad. Other wise i always found zinc and castor oil cream to be excellent and also desatin (it is a bit smelly, but works wonders on sore bottoms).

Re: Bad nappy rash

Apparently a teaspoon of baking soda in baby's bath helps
