PND is no laughing matter

benmaclil by benmaclil In Nappies(December 2008) (rank 500+)

People who tell a sufferer of PND to "get over it" or "life can't be that bad" can be making things a whole lot worse. Sufferers of PND can have the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, so low infact, that it is very dark.

Things are completely out of perspective for a sufferer of PND. The night can bring horrible thoughts and desires, and is more difficult to get through than daylight.

As a sufferer myself, I have been trying to bring an awareness of the diagnosis, and educate those who may not know alot about it. It is a killer, plain and simple, and if you know someone who is suffering from it, or you suspect they may be, please encourage them to seek help.

PND can affect not only the sufferer, but the family, the children, and anyone who comes into contact. There is treatment for PND, and it is affective. Medication is sometimes used in conjunction with counselling. Many techniques have been developed to help those who have been diagnosed.

People who have had an episode of depression in their past, is more likely to develop PND.

PND is not just for women, men can also suffer from this. It is emotionally draining on a family and can cause havoc to anyone around it.

Please seek help if you or someone you care about appears to have PND. Sometimes it helps to just listen to what they have to say, don't offer suggestions, but just listen and let them get it off their chest.

I hope this is helpful to anyone who thinks they suffer, or has a loved one who suffers PND.

Thank you.

Its sad that women aren't able to debrief and are often told to "just be grateful your baby is healthy"
