Baby Food- the big jars.

JadieLady by JadieLady Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 17th)

Now that my sonis eating more, i find it easier to buy the large baby food jars instead of the little ones. problem is with thew fantastic flavours like mongolian lamb etc, i find my son is having difficulty  with the large chunks in them and choking and spluttering more

than he eats although he givwes it a darn good go!

my solution?

the large size "only Organic" brand baby food. it is stiull fruits and custard, but its chunks are smaller, an 'in between' size if you will so he can still get it in without choking on it. and he loves it. i think its the step in between for us :) he had fruit muesli today. with chunky little oat bits throughout and he loved it to bits. we bought a 4pack variety packet thing the other three flavours are spring lamb and veggies, apple custard, and tender beef and veggies.

I find this brand is much better than the normal as it is less processed- the more organic the better right?

i did try the mashing tinned pears myself thing- but i dont have the time to create baby food let alone a colourful masterpeice for him.

i found buying two variety pack of the large size was only $1.50 more than buying one of the heinz eight variet packs with the small tins. i think this is better as it less expensive, and better for baby :) think of all the new stuff he is learning with the new flavours and textures :)

i hope this can give someone a hint if they are having trouble moving up to chunkier food :)

Eating is fun!
I haven't tried the organics, they only come in the small sizes here and they are only the small jars of veggies, not even fruit. We have tried those, but they were more expensive, so I just gave him the normal stuff. Actually, what I really like is the Heinz Moms Recipie baby food. It smells great, and is easy to serve. It does have small chunks in it. When I first gave them to my son he didn't eat it but after awhile he got used to it, and now he loves it.
I never knew lamb was a baby food! Must be something special for your country. You sure couldn't get it in Canada!

great for convenience
I used to pre-cook then freeze all the vegies into ice-cube trays.  Always on hand and I would know exactly what I was giving bubs.   I certainly had the jarred products on hand for 'just-in-case' but always felt guilty using them.   I don't quite remember having difficulty with 'chunky' bits.  I guess it was a natural and gradual progression.  Like yourself, Jadie, there are others that can't manage the time to prepare the food themselves.  You've shared some good personalised hints here. thanks

I agree that there is a great convienence in these jars.  I remember having a few on hand always, i tried to feed E stuff I prepared myself, but sometimes it didnt happen for whatever reason and it was good to have jars available.  I found a couple the other day actually, that we never got around to using, and theya re just out of date...ah well.
Peace
