How much sleep does your bubs need???

beekay1 by beekay1 Crawling(December 2008) (rank 500+)

We all know that it is near impossible to develop a sleep routine in the first few weeks (months???) of your babies life - it is more like survival 101  When they sleep so do you!  But as they get older you develop routines and then BANG it all

changes again!  I have got to a point where my daughter is nearly 12 months and i didnt know if she was getting enough sleep during the day - she would only have 2 naps and one would only be for half an hour and the other from 1-2 hours.  But now i have found this guide below and it has just reassured me that all is OK.  If you are not sure i hope it is of use for you.  (Remember a well rested baby is always easier to settle at nighttime too!!!)

Remember this is only a guide!                                                          Newborn                3-6 Months               6-9 Months                9-12 Months

Average awake time          1 Hour                       2-3 Hours                  2-3 Hours                    4 Hours

Time to settle                       15 Minutes               1 Hour                        1 Hour                          1 Hour

Sleep Time                          1-3 Hours                 2-3 Hours                  1-2 Hours                   May sleep 1 Hr in morning and 1 in afternoon
