Cradle Cap

beekay1 by beekay1 Crawling(December 2008) (rank 500+)

When my daughter was born, i was amazed at all the things that you dont get told about.  One of them was cradle cap.  When i first heard about it i had no idea what it was and almost felt stupid asking.  However, once i determined the condition i

wanted to do everything i could to prevent it.  Below are the things i did in order to ensure my daughter never experienced this skin condition.  I hope this helps some mums out there.

  • For the first six months when i bathed Charlise i never used soap - all i used was a touch of baby oil in her water and wiped her over thoroughly with a face washer, ensuring i gave her scalp a good massage.
  • After the last nappy change for the night i always brushed her hair (even when she didn't have any!) with a soft bristled brush.  This was great to remove any occassional dry bits of skin and to get her used to a brush early on.  It was important to have soft bristles to prevent hurting her soft spots.
  • When soap was introduced at bath times i ensured it was mild and was always fully rinsed from her.  I also always made sure i dried her hair straight away with a towel and massaged a small amount of baby oil through it.  Not only did it keep her scalp soft and supple but she smelt great!!
  • If dry bits did appear (and sometimes it would be on her eyebrows!) i would coat with baby oil before she went to bed at night.  I would find that by the end of the next day it would all be gone.
  • I also tried to limit the amount of hats she wore in the first six months allowing as much air as possible to get to her scalp.

Re: Cradle Cap

my sister newborn just recently got severe craddle crap plus some heat rashes on the baby's face. She went to several doctor and used baby oil as well to get rid of the craddle cap (i supposed the dry skin like dandruff on the head and some on the eye brow as well).

She went to the third doctor and he prescribed her a cream called: NOVASONE and MAGIC happened..all craddle cap and those rashes 100% completely gone...and the baby face skin is 100% clean and clear. But do consult with your GP first if you want to use this cream as I heard this is quite strong one..
