What to eat -Solids 9mths

mcm by mcm Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 5th)
At 9 months most babies will be eating 3 meals a day plus having 3 milk feeds. This of course can differ and does vary. My baby is 9 1/2 mths and he still feeds quite frequently on the breast while having 3 hearty solid meals a day.

At every meal give one each of the following:
  • a starchy food ie. cereal/ grain/ potato/ pasta/ bread
  • fruit or vegetable
  • protein ie. dairy/ meat/ legumes/ fish/ egg
Baby can now have freshly prepared food as what you would make for the family. You can slowly introduce a range of different foods so as they grow they will enjoy a wide variety of foods.

My baby's favourite foods include fruity bix with boiled water and apple sauce - no added sugar, salt or milk, avocado sandwiches and pasta with toato based sauce. My husband feeds him egg, chicken, mince when he cooks (I am vegetarian). I think its important to encourage healthy balanced eating from early age.

Balanced eating

I think its important to encourage healthy balanced eating from early age.

I agree.  The more exposure they get to different things (in small doses until you know they like it) the better and the less fussy they will be in the future.  Well that is my hope and hence my theory when introducing things to E.  I am not too hot on spicy food, but she is like her father and loves it.  So I allow her to try all those things when they are on our menu at least she will never say no without trying something first!

Sorry, just noticed the pun - it wasnt intentional.  LOL
Peace

Eggs

that's good advice.. i was told by my baby's doctor that when she's eating solids and i was reading it somewhere to that eggs, they can only have the yolks around the age of 7 months old  and can't have whole eggs(includes yolk & whites) until your baby is over 12 months of age. i have a feeding baby solid foods book. that i got when i got her shots done.
I just thought that i would just add that for you.
