Re: Christian religious education
Asked by violeta

Question:

My son is starting prep next year and they are runing this program for the whole school Christian religious education I did not know this when I enroled him or I would have looked

at other schools as I dont want him to be involved in this. I have read what is in the program and I dont like my son to take part in this as it clashes with what I belive in (I am Christian orthodox). Does anyone know about this program? Is it right to have this in schools (this is normal public school not a christian school)? Expecially since kids at prep are 5-6 years old. I am told I can withdraw my son prom the program but I am not told what will happen if I do and what will my son do in that time. As the whole school is having it at the same time in their usual classrooms.

My Advice:

Our School has told me that they have to offer it to all children but it is not compulsory. It is a low key lesson. No heavy bible bashing or anything and they just talk about the basics. I gave my children both the choice. They went and if they did not like it then they didnt have to do it. They are now in grade 2 and 4 and are both still going. I know the lady who takes the class her daughter is in ;my sons class. And she makes it a lot of fun. If they don't go they join same age classes together and the do craft and games.

You know what the answer is. Just follow your heart.. Don't let anyone tell you what your children should or shouldn't do.

All the best Kath
