Cleaning with a toddler

Queen-Fire by Queen-Fire Walking(December 2008) (rank 395th)

I found a really good routine about cleaning with my 20 month old boy who is very active. When I get up at around 630 am with my partner, I bring in the washing and fold it up. By the time Damian is ready to get up at around 8am

I go in put his clothes away, then pick out an outfit for him for the day. Then get him up and give him a shower with myself or a bath by himself depending on how I feel at the time (I usually do this in the morning due to the fact that he usually takes his nappy off). Then it is time to get dressed and give him some breakfast. Then it is playtime til lunch, I will then give him lunch and it is naptime. This is my time (time to do things I want to do). I may start a load of washing at this time also. When Damian wakes up it is playtime again til dad gets home, then it is dinner and bedtime. After Damian goes to bed it is time for cleaning, we all eat dinner at the same time, so then it is hanging out the washing time, then dishes then pick up the toys and put them away. Then just pick up anything else outta place.

I realise this routine won't work for everyone but it is the best way I have found to keep the house as clean as possible. Also this way you aren't picking up the same toys 3 or 4 times a day to put them away just to have your toddler upset that you have put them away.

Cheers Queenie

Re: Cleaning with a toddler

wow you are very good, my children are 20 and 15 now and i dont think i was ever that organised!!!

one trick i do remember when they were about your son's age was the 'pack away game'.  first it started with them trying to see if they could throw their toy(s) into their playbox, eg trying to get a goal and i would say, 'wow you got a pack away'.  then when they got a bit older i just used to say 'pack away' and they just put their stuff in the box.  they also had a number of boxes for different things, eg teddies, books, toys etc

having said that i wish they would do it now hahaha, i think the game wears off after a couple of years.

cheers

k

LOL, yea my boy wouldn't put his toys away even if I made a game outta it. He seems to only be hearing what he wants to hear. Or it could be his hearing is getting worse again. We find out in march.
