Fair Trade Toys

KitWalker by KitWalker Standing(August 2006) (rank 500+)
My wife and I recently bought some toys for our friends' kids to use when they are visiting.

We stumbled across a shop in Perth called Fair Go Trading, which is a lot like the Oxfam shops.

Anyhow, we found the toys they sell to be bright,
practical (e.g. good ol' puppet theatres and hand puppets), and inexpensive. Best of all, as most of the toys are made in Third World countries, the proceeds from sales help people in need.

We bought a flourescent orange-and-blue 'hands-on' noughts-and-crosses set. The noughts and crosses are small, cuddly cushions and the board is bright colours sewn onto a hessian mat.

What do others know about 'fair go' toys?

Fair trade is great!
I am generally against globalisation and think if we can buy fair trade its a great idea. I make things myself if I can and prefer to buy from local people or from ppl who need the jobs. I have been to the Oxfam shop in Melbourne and I loved it. Its amazing how talented ppl can be just with things that are generally thrown away in the West. I bought some nappies and clothing that is made in India under a fair trade agreement. I also prefer to buy wool and such which is organic and fair trade. I like to buy Australian too as I want to build up our economy for my children.

Better Toys

Good advice, the classic toys are often the best and if you can connect with your child that its also helping people less fortunate then it installs some good values from an early age too.
