Suprisingly Dangerous: Gorilla Glue and Excel

lilysmom by lilysmom Talking Back(December 2008) (rank 72nd)

This is something that I'm sure a lot of you have laying around the house. It's great for quick repair jobs, and anyone that does woodworking is sure to have some of this. Something that you may not know about it, is how much more dangerous it is

than regular glue.

If you have children (which I'm sure you do if you are on this website!) or pets, it is imperative that this glue be kept out of reach.

Gorilla Glue and Excel glue are two popular polyurethane glues. All polyurethane glues expand when exposed to moisture. If this glue is ingested, it will continue expanding in the stomach and intestines until it is removed, or it runs out of space to expand and the stomach or bowels rupture.

The warning for this glue says that if ingested "severe irritation of the gastrointestinal tract may occur" which just doesn't quite seem a strong enough warning for what can really happen!

I just wanted to inform you all as to how dangerous this glue actually is! I know that we all take precautions with chemicals and glues and other things that may harm our children and pets, but this one seems like it deserves extra-special care.
