Re: second labour
Asked by nickyjade
Question:
Hi can everyone tell me if there second labour was longer or shorter, my first was 3 hr 10mins so kinda wondering if I will make it to the hospital if its shorter, lol.
My Advice:
Hi Nicky,
My 1st labour was 8 hours (home delivery), I was told that it would be at least be another 24 hours & low & behold, my daughter was born within 6 hours. My 2nd., was also born at home but this time, my "waters" broke 48 hours previously. Had the midwife etc., etc., come out to see me & then warned me (this was Sat. night) that if my contractions hadn't started by the mornday a.m., I'd have to go to hospital. We had dinner with our nextdoor neighbours on Sunday night & after a wonderful meal, I just so tired, so went to bed & approx an hour later, started having "pains" in my lower spine. At the time I just thought it was back-ache but then, just a litle nagging I couldn't sleep. At 5 a.m., I thought I had appendictis & woke ex-hubby up. Must give him credit, he did phone the midwife, who was a "large" person, put the old Wessex clock on top of the wardrobe, so she could see the time. M y first son, a "dry" birth had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice & he was 5 lb 12ozs.
My 3rd born, (with my new hubby) yet again, I went into labour this time 5 wks early & we were away from home staying with friends, one who was a nurse & her hubby was a radiographer. Rachael was a breech birth & weighed 4lb. 9ozs. By the time we came out to Aussie, Rachael was 9 months old & I was just preggys with Steven. Steven was born 6 wk's early weighing 1700 grms & was such a skinny babe & my 2nd stage of labour was just 10 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicky, no-one can predict the lenght of birth. I've tried to give you an example of my four kids.
Please look at my profile & see how wonderful my 1700gm younger son is now! I'm so proud of him as he has just completed 3 years of Uni & qualified & he only turned 20, 4 weeks ago. & is a wonderful tennis player, playing in temps of 34c+ in Perth during January.
Sorry if I've gone on so much, but I hope this has helped you. Please stop stressing out & enjoy your 2nd. pregnancy.
Take care,
