Top iPhone (iPod Touch) games for 5 and unders

katiepiatt by katiepiatt Talking Back(January 2009) (rank 119th)

I intended to keep my iPhone as MY iPhone, but the problem with a device as easy to use as an iPhone is that the minute you leave it unattended, the kids have it and have figured out how to turn it on and start browsing through applications...

So

rather than fight it, I've been doing some research into the best educational/entertaining games for them I can find - they just might learn something, or at least be entertained for a while! Here are my top 5 (as of Jan 09)

1. I See Ewe - Brilliant! They have to identify animals, shapes, objects etc, with great positive feedback, and can play matching games too.

2. ZooBox - like those old toys where you turn it upside down and it makes a cow mooing noise. Only there's loads of different animals.

3. Bubbles - little fingers make lots of bubbles and pop them!

4. Dotty Shapes - clicking on the numbers or letters in orders makes increasingly complex shapes.

5. Dizzy Bee Free - a challenging entertaining game for little ones, they roll the bee around the screen picking up friends and avoiding the nasty one.

These are the best ones I've stumbled across so far - please let me know any more

Thanks.

I want one!

Unfortunately, the carrier up here doesn't support them yet. Guess I'm stuck with my black berry. Having something to distract Lily while we're grocery shopping, or waiting at the drs would be great. She loves to play with my phone, but somehow manages to screw it up completely every time she touches it. Hopefully she turns out more tech-savy than me.... I'm horrible with that sort of thing! lol

Glad the iPhone has some practical use!

Did the research you did suggest that it's probably a good idea to keep tabs on how much access they have to it, tho? Kids today probably need to be techno-savvy... but I wouldn't want to let it become the only way they keep themselves amused, or learn something new! There are some health issues to consider with that too! (particularly long term health/fitness/weight impact of forming mostly sedentary interests!)
