Gummy teethers

Blackcat by Blackcat Talking(August 2006) (rank 200th)
My son has never used a dummy for 'sucking' on.  He would just put it in the side of his mouth and chew on it which ever side he was teething at the time.  I tried a few teething rings but he didn't like them.  So I just let
him chew on his dummy not realising there was anything else to buy for him.  Now I have found a teether which looks like a dummy  when its in his mouth but it has a pliable textured cushion made of silicone to chew and bite on, with it being solid silicone there is no liquid in the middle your baby can bite through too.  You can put it in the fridge or freezer to cool it down and put teething gel onto it then put it in babies mouth.  I bought it in Big W for around $6 but have also seen them in Woolworths.  If you want to check them out here is there website    http://www.happybaby.com.au/gummy.html   .  My little one loves his and seems to be more content chewing on it when he is teething.  Another great thing about these they are an Australian invention, by an Australian Dad :).

Re: Gummy teethers

My son has a gummy teether too.  I put it on his Sleepytot Comforter (from www.sleepytot.com) and he can chew away to his heart's content.  They're great. x

I prefer them also as Samuel keeps dropping his teething rings and this way he will not drop it as it should be in his mouth

frozen teethers
I am a big proponent of the gummy teether but my dentist told me that its not a good idea to freeze them.  He said that babies could cut their gums on it because the frozen ones numb thems and then they can gnaw too hard.  His recommendation was to take a washcloth, wet it down and then put it in the refrigerator for a while to make it cold.  My son LOVES this when I give it to him.

Not so lazy "mom's way"...

Just teasing... I say go for whatever works for your baby!

I froze extra waffles from brekkie and had them on hand for my daughter to gnaw on when she was teething.  Homemade - so I know they are healthy, and they never froze to the point that they were sharp.   She enjoyed the texture of the waffles, and they thawed into a nice snack... I think they were the perfect solution for us.

Hmm
Hmm like poision said the shape might be a little uncomfortable for some. But I like the idea it's very simple but have never seen anything like it I have not even seen it in shops but I have not actually looked for that product very clever! might have to try it with bub whom is getting more teeth in all the time

my son has no idea how to use these he tries to suck on it. He will bite / chew on bottle teats and his dummy but with gummy he sucks and will spit it out :(  i have a feeling the shape of it going around his whole gum line might be the prob much like jadielady's son

We actually bought one of these a while ago as my son was doing the same thign with his dummy- except he started tearing holes in them. however, he doesnt like the shape of them for some reason- but maybe when he is older he will take to it a bit better.

Neat
Those look neat, I have never seen them before.  I think they would of come in handy with my son.  He hated the teething rings.

teething rings

The pacifer spin off is pretty neat.

I worry about teething rings...I left one in the car once and the plastic melted and god only knows what was inside.  Whatever it was turned orange and permenately stained my car upholstery.  I can only imagine what would happen if a child bit through one somehow!  Just my worry!!

dangerous?

I totally agree with you... what is in those things!?

I sortof think that all the research gone into deciding that silicone breast implants are bad should confirm for us that we don't want silicone in our babies mouths either.

I saw them!!

I saw these too! They are pretty neat. I was going to buy some, but I had already spent alot of money on pacifier's. And my daughter don't like them, so I think it'd be a waste of money non the less :(

Great advice!!
