Question:

hello my little girl is turning one soon and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what things i could do so my child can enjoy starting to read and things like that

we read alot but she doesn't seem that interested what can i do to get her interested if there is thank you i just want to give her a good start

My Advice:

It is so great that you are encouraging your child to read so young.  This is very important for her to love reading later in life.

A few things that you can do to encourage reading include:

1. Read to her.

2. Read in short intervals.

3. Stop reading before she wants you to.  (One mom told me that she would get to the best part and before the climax she would say Ok let's brush our teeth.  At this point the toddler would beg for mom to continue.  She would then tell her little one. who was 2, to brush her teeth then they would finish.  She is 12 now and loves books.

4. Changer your tone of voice     Make the charcters stand out.  If it's a man give him a deep deep voice and for and old granny give her an old motherly voice.

5. Use hand gestures.     With a 1 yr old you could grab her hands and make them jump as the bunny jumped through the field.

6. Make it always fun.

Also, if you want her to start to read on her on early try the Doman Program.  My son was reading books by 2 1/2.  Sight words were sooner.  He has a book called Teach Your Baby to Read and many others.      By the way my son is no genius.  The system is just great.

I hope this helps you.  Continue your love of reading.
