Hi,
At this time I am 28 weeks pregnant and have been looking at a lot of information about babies in the womb. Wow, we have learned so much since my first son. With my first son we read to him and talked to him every day knowing that
he could hear us. When he was born he would turn at the sound of my husbands voice. There could be many other people in the room talking and he would only turn when it was me or my husband. This was in the first few days. We knew then that that he recognized us by our voices.
One thing that I remember was that when I was pregnant I barely ever felt him moved. But, one time a neighbor was angry and trew a something that hit the wall. My son jumped inside of me and I could feel him moving for awile. I rubbed my belly and told him that it was ok.
Now I find out that when we are scared, even if the fear goes away in us quickly, the fear goes to the baby in your womb and continues to bother it. They do not know that the fear is gone. The higher the fear hormone in your body the higher it is in the fetus. This affects the babies brain development.
So, now when I get stressed this is what I do.
1. Breathe - Deep breaths pushing out your stomach
Hold for a second and Release
2. Tell your baby (fetus) that it will be ok and rub your belly.
3. Picture someting really nice and enjoyable and continue deep breathing.
4. Do this for around 10 min a day to allow your body to release and stress built up from the day. Yes, you have some, if not a lot.
Reading in a soothing voice also will calm you and baby. As mentioned above it also helps to build a bond between you and baby. Studies have shown that the stories read to a fetus are recognized by them after birth.
Reading can also encourage a healthy reading habit as an adult.
Hope you find this helpful. Keep reading and stay calm.
