Question:

Ok another Q for you all.   From the previous Q you all know my son is 18mths, he used to love us reading to him and we used to read of a morning about

2-3 books.  These days he dosen't like us reading to him much and was wondering if it was worth doing it at bedtime, when he has his bottle.

Will I be setting myself up for a habbit that will be hard to break in the long run.  Or will it be benifical (sp) and he will grow out of it.

When did you start reading to your kids b4 bed time?

My Advice:

Hi,

If he does continue to want you to read to him I don't see it as a bad thing.  I started reading to my son before he was born every night.  There are nights that I don't have time and I just tell him we are only going to read a few verses.  (We read Proverbs ussually.) We also read out of the Peaceful Solution Character Education Books.  They have wonderful short stories.  Any book will do.  Reading to him at night will also encourage him to love reading and strengthen your bond.

Now my son is 8 and reads him self to bed every night.  Reading befroe he goes to bed is part of his rotine and it helps him to go to sleep.  This is great on the nights that he's not really tired.  This way I can send him to bed and he can read quitly to himself.  It gives us both some quite time.

Re: Reading before bed can be a great habit.

We have a nightly Bible Reading, where we read a chapter of the Old Testiment, and a chapter of the New Testiment, followed by a nursery story, followed by prayers, and finishing up with memory verses before they close their eyes for the night.

This nightly activity helps my children unwind and relax before they hit the hay, and we have noticed a marked difference between the days we do our routine, and the days we don't.

I highly recommend reading before sleep at night if you only have the patence and stamina to keep it up, as children love routine, something they can count on to happen.
