The Monopoly Game, making it local

joburkey by joburkey Standing(January 2009) (rank 500+)

hi there,

Over the Christmas holidays we went away with some friends and they have created such a fantastic idea. With the game Monopoly they have created their own board with all the addresses of their relatives and themselves. It was such fun as the children pretend to visit

family as they go around the board.

you can do this to with copying a Monopoly board game and inserting your own addresses, it's so simple and most importantly it taught the children all the addresses of their family members.

Another theme could also be places that they have been to (there is an endless amount of themes that can be done)

All they needed to to was create their own board on cardboard (which you can get the kids to help out with) you can then create and  print out and cut out the property cards using the original ones as a guide.  If you really were enthusiastic you can create your own chance and community chest cards.

If you don't have a monopoly board you can always print out your own money and make your own. there would be plenty of website to help you

if you have the money to spend there is http://www.mymonopoly.com/home.php  where you can create your own monopoly and pay for it. (this site is also useful for those who don't ahve the board)

There's also software so that you can generate it and print it out yourself http://www.boardgames.com/makyourownmo.html

And of course there's freeware software to download http://www.supershareware.com/software/make-your-own-monopoly.html

It's endless fun the different things you could do, even create or use your own tiny figurines.

We had so much fun that we have made our own.

have fun

Great idea! So much more fun having it personalised... and a great opportunity to teach kids about where their extended family is (and who goes with who -- like which uncle is which aunty's hubby, which cousin's dad etc -- where they don't see or visit them often, this can be confusing for kids!)

Sounds like a fun way to teach them about family and where they live - some people are SO creative!

What an awesome idea. Will look into this and most likely will make up my own monopoly board, as it does teach your children who's in their family, address' etc. Very great idea.
