Kids love playdough but it can be expensive to buy. I found these playdough recipes on the web
Uncooked Playdough
1 cup plain flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon oil
1-2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1 cup boiling water, with a few
drops of food colouring added if desired
Mix the dry ingredients together with the oil
Then quickly add the boiling water, stirring rapidly as the dough thickens.
Kneed until smooth adding more flour if dough is sticky.
Microwave Playdough
1 cup plain flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoons cream of tartar
1 cup water, with a few drops of food colouring added if desired
Beat all ingredients well, removing all lumps.
Place in a large covered microwave dish.
Cook on high for 5 minutes.
Stir into dough while hot and kneed into a ball when cooled
These recipes are from the WA Health Departments ‘Play and Learn’ handout of playdough recipes. It also has recipes for sensory dough, cooked playdough, bakers clay, gluten-free playdough, cornflour based paint, slime and bubble mix. The handouts are available online at http://www.population.health.wa.gov.au/Child/resources_child.cfm then go down to the fourth box on the screen. The playdough recipes are in handout 12. The other 21 handouts are pretty good too.
