Re: lots of kids?
Asked by josierm

Question:

now that no.3 is starting to grow out of various baby items, i have been pondering what to do with them.  i know that she will probably be my last (although i remain

open minded about the possibility of having another baby) but i cant bring myself to get rid of all the baby stuff, just in case.  then i remind myself that having 3 kids under the age of 4 is hard work, but if we were to have a 4th it would probably be when the youngest is nearing school, and not be so hard.........so, after that internal dialogue- i would like to know the pros and cons of having a house full of kids, some advice on when to stop and how do you know when you've had enough children etc etc.  i also don't want to disadvantage my current children by spreading my attention too thin.  thanks.

My Advice:

My advice would be to hold on to the really nice things.  If you had clothe diapers that are not stained and beautiful outfits in great shape then save the great things.  You may want to limit yourself to one sealed bag or box.

I wouldn't keep everything.  If you did your house would be so full of stuff that you and your family would not be able to enjoy life.  Even if you have the room by keeping it you take up space in your mind.  When you have too much cluder it causes you to forget where you put everyday items.  Keep your house and your mind clear.

The next thing that I would do is to take either take one really memorable dress or outfit and put it into the middle of a blanket.  You can use iron on glue that you can buy at craft stores or just sew it onto the middle.

Or

Take many of the clothes and cut them into squares and make a small blanket just for them.

Or

Last idea is to sew onto a piece of fabric in a great design one of each of you chld's meaningful clothing and hang it on the wall.  You could either frame it or make a frame with the clothe.

I hope this is helpful.

Peace

Re: To keep or throw away

Some good ideas to avoid the sense of loss in throwing or giving all the baby stuff away...

(However, I think that Josie's original question had more to do with the pro's and con's of having more kids; than what to do with the stuff? It looked like she was possibly wanting some input from large families on how that works??)
