My Birthing experiences

Iriny by Iriny In Nappies(January 2009) (rank 500+)

This is my birthing experiance, i have put it here in the hope that it might help some one, or you might be able to relate, enjoy, and please laugh, it was a funny tale.

Well you all as mums in the past or to be have been in

the same situation,

oh my gosh it's positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what do i do now? how do i tell my hubby????

well i can say i probably didnt do it well either time, but there was no right time to say honey you are going to be a father, when i was so blown away it was a positive test, LOL, so i just told him, he was stunned, and excited and gobsmacked,

I knew from the start that i wanted to be more informed than the hospital, so we contacted a private midwife, she is a local mum who is amazing! (if you are a darling downs local , mail me and i'll give you her details) and from then on Sonya was the very best source of information i could ever have asked for, she was able to impart SO much information to us, we really felt blessed to have her, Sonya has become a wondeful friend.

Sonya introuced us to a doula in training Sally who would assist with the birth and who has be also become a great friend, between us all we worked out a birth plan that covered most situations and everyone knew what we wanted in case of an emergency.

the biggest part of my learning was to read a book called Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering, the information on those pages opened our eyes to a lot of things that you just simply dont get told in the hospital, it really made a difference to our choices.

Our birth plan was based around the fact that we didnt want any drugs at all, no gas, no epi, no suction or forceps, and we stuck to that, as it turned out i had to be induced very slightly,

The due date was the 20/12/2007, and sure enough about 3am i got this really "oh ooh" feeling and sure enough my waters had broken, the look on my hubbies face was priceless, trying to get him to get me a towel so we didnt have a huge mess, (now that i can look back is funny but at the time i nearly had to kick him out of bed to go get one, he was totally stunned) was not fun, we finally got a towel and i went to stand in the bathroom to contain any mess, we took one look at each other and started to laugh, which only made the water leak worse!!!!!!!!!! Poor Sonya got a call soon after that and a few hours later she arrived at our place, (she had just finished delivering another baby and had just climbed into bed, so we told her to sleep!), Sonya talked us through every thing we would need to do and be aware of, and i book a visit to my chiro to get some last min checks done, so now we would wait, and wait and wait some more.

WOW a contraction! it was midday on friday, so we were hoping it would be quick from there, no such luck, i had to keep moving or the contactions would stop, damb i walked some Km's that day, by that night still nothing major so we settled in to attempt to sleep, almost, by Saturady morning i was starting to get a little frazzled and bub was trying to turn his back to mine, so we spent the day trying to keep him the correct position, we love gravity!!!!!!!!!!,

By Saturday arvo we had decide to bit the bullet and go the the hospital, so my self and my parade trooped to the local hospital to ge tthe party started, the midwives down there wanted to send me home cause of the lack of action, but Sonya was a gem and told tem that we would be leaving when the baby had arrived and no sooner, so i has hooked up all sorts of interstiing machines and they took blood and the normal stats, we got moved into a private room just beforer dinner,  they hooked me up the the enduction drip about 18:30 and so i very much enjoyed my strogonoff, and we settled down for the long wait

Sally had to race home to feed her little boy and we didnt expect any action for a while, boy were we wrong! no sooner had i finshed my dinner then the contactions decided to really start working, and it was a quick / long less than  2 1/2 hours later i had a little boy in my arms, Sally arrived back just as it was all gettting exciting and just in time to take some quick photos, Andrew (my hubby) had planned to "catch" bub as he arrived, he nearly couldnt as he arrived so fast, none of this crowning stuff, he wasnt waiting for anyone, Sonya was trying to work out if she need to catch, Andrew was trying to get into position and bub shot out and up his arm, not sure what his rush was??. the baby that had arrived ROARING was named Leo Harris, we finally got off the floor which was where i had decided i was comfy, into the bed and Leo decided it was feed time, so we snuggled in for an hour and half while he had a really good feed,

I learnt a lesson that you should always take someone to the shower with you just after delivering, i nearly passed out, THANK GOODNESS for Sonya and Sally they kept me from crashing on to the floor, while i showered, the doc came and weighted Leo, a very healthy 8 pound 5, 58cm long and some 2 hours later we packed up and headed home, we have pics of Leo at 4 hours old asleep on me , at home tucked up in bed, what a long day!

Leo is now a very healthy happy 1 yo, who is in to everything, we are expecting our 2nd bub in july and life is awesome,

Sonya is still midwifing in the area   and i see her when ever she has a gap in her hectic shedule,

Sally in now a Doula in her own right and i can't thank them both enough for all they have done for us and given us,

i hope this has given some people the idea that not all birthing experiences are bad and dangerous as is often portrayed, yes it hurt but we are going back for a second time so it cant have been that bad can it?????

Great closing sentence.

Biirth is not bad in of itself. Usually interventions etc make it traumatic. :(
