Re: HOW DO I DISCIPLINE MY TODDLER ?
Asked by MOMMYX2

Question:

HOW DO I DISCIPLINE MY 14 MONTH OLD?ALL HE WANTS TO DO IS TELL ME NO AND DO IT ANYWAYS. I CANT GET HIM TO STOP SAYING NO!!!!

My Advice:

I have had the same problem with my children and I found only one system that worked on all of them.

You have to let the child know that this is unacceptable.  Let him/her know that from now on, bad behaviour will earn a punishment.  Let the child know what the punishment is, (eg sitting on a specific mat ) for an alloted time.  Being only 14 months, I would suggest a total of 2 minutes at a time.  If he leaves the mat, just take him back until he does his alloted time.

But you must be prepared to do this every time.  Once you let him off once, he will only start doing it again.  Consistency is  the magic word for parents.

It may take some time, but you will get there in the end.

Re: Discipline

I agree... consistency is the key!

At the same time, I think that most parents have gone thru the "NO!" stage at this age... it is a phase, so don't despair!

Re: Discipline

This is certainly the basis for all good discipline methods... Kids are pretty grey areas though and from there people can build up a style that suits them, their child and their lifestyle best.
