toilet training

Dawn by Dawn Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 25th)
My boy is almost 3 1/2 and I haven't worried about tt due to his health. But I can see he would benefit from kinder and would like to hear from others and the best way to tt using ec. He is not interested in using the toilet - he
loves his pull ups too much. He only tells me after the event that he needs to go to the toilet. I am not too sure if he fully understands the concept. His vocab is great but he doesn't seem to understand that you need to go b4. How can I tell if he is physically ready? Is it possible that he is not?

Firstly I will ask what health problems your son has had? My  youngest daughter suffered from a bladder and kidney infection and was not properly tt until she was almost 4. My oldest and middle daughters were trained by the age of 1 and 2, and my son was 3. With our son now here is another question is he still on a bottle? our son would not give it up. We finally told him after he bit the top off his last nipple that it was time to throw his bottles away, he did about a week later we went out to buy him underwear, the ones that are thick and absorb. w let him pick the ones he wanted, andwithin a month he wasusingthe bathroom he never has had an accident in his pants or wetting the bed. just don't give him any liquids before bedtime. If he says he is thirsty, let him have a couple of small sips and then wait for 20 mins or so and have him go to the bathroom. have his dad show him how big boys go, if there is no dad, let him see you sitting on the toilet going. he need not see your privates, just that mommy is big and this is how big people go to the bathroom. now take a deep breath and know that he will do this involve him and as I said if he won't give up the pull-ups take him out and let him pick his own underwear it really is a big step for a little guy, and if he has a fav like spiderman or bob the builder or spongebob, he won't want to mess them! Good Luck, and just breath!

Bedtime milk
Oh yes they are sure to go in the night if you give them a drink before bed even warm milk try and avoid it. Love the idea of letting them pick their own underwear very clever thinking! thanks

A big boy now

My son was the same way with the pullups. He loved them way too much. I did the sticker chart with him. I let him pick out his underwear in spiderman, and told him that spiderman doesn't wear pull-ups cause he's a big boy now. Let him do stuff like " the big boys'' do. I found I had to really encourage him and make a big deal out of it . I also tried potty training outside by letting him pee on the bugs( such as ants) LOL .  Let him read books on the potty.

I also heard of playing with warm water while he is on the potty will help. Put warm water in a little pail and let him play.
