Saving yourself money with making your own household cleaning product

BossyBoots57 by BossyBoots57 Speaking(August 2006) (rank 172nd)

This was great advice given to me years ago....

You can save yourself alot of money by making your own household cleaning product.

Main ingredients as follows;

  • 1/4 cup of ammonia
  • 1 litre water
  • 1 water bottle (1 litre size)
  • small amount of dishwashing liquid

Place the ammonia, water and dishwashing liquid into water bottle. Shake well.

You will see for yourself that no matter what the household task is, to what is needed to be cleaned, this recipe is the number one source.

I have saved alot of money throughout the past years on this recipe, in hopes that I can pass it now on to you.......Happy cleaning!

cleaning

Good idea!

I personally use vinager and baking soda for most things. News paper is great for polishing glass and metal.

Quick note: A thing that most people probably know but don't think of - Ammonia + bleach = mustard gas. Everyone knows not to mix cleaning products, but they don't think about cleaning up with bleach. Never ever clean up pet messes or litter boxes with bleach. Urine contains ammonia naturally so... My dad almost killed himself when I was younger cleaning up dog pee in the basement with bleach. He actually passed out and my mom found him, thank god.

Happy cleaning everyone!

That sounds good- except i have an probem with ammonia. So i just stick with bi-carb and vinagar. if that doesnt work nothing will!

Bicarb and vinegar for sure! I hate the idea of using bleach. My husband brings it home from work and i am not impressed! It stinks.
I think its a great idea to avoid store bought cleaners.

saving lots of money

Cleaning products are so expensive, so great idea on making your own. Is there  a particular cleaning task this mixture works excellent on? and that it doesn't work so great on?
