ASTHMA

momof2 by momof2 Speaking(August 2006) (rank 500+)

I don't know what everyone knows about asthma in babies but, both of my children have asthma.  My 10 was diagnosed at the same time as my son at the time she was 9 and he was 6 months.  I had taken him to the doctor mutiple times for

stuffy, runney noses, cough, and discolored eye lids.  And the doctor kept giving meds for a cold.  I rushed him to the hospital one night he to me was not breathing right he was breathing really fast and hard.  He was diagnosed with rsv and asthma.  I had taken him to the doctor the day before and was told he was fine he just had a cold.  I changed doctors after that, my son would not have had to suffer for as long had the doctor listen to me and the signs that my son was showing for asthma.  The doctor at the hospital said he probley would have not been hospitallized had the doctor listen to me and really check my son out, and not just gave him meds. for a cold.  Had he been on asthma meds. then he probley would not have cought rsv.  I just wonted to give everyone some signs to look for that your child might have asthma not just a cold.  And is not just a sickley child.  That is something I had many people tell me about my son before he was diagnosed.  I heard comments like he is always sick, is he still sick.  So hear are just a few signs.  I hope no one else has to go learn the way I did that their child has asthma.  I also have learned their are different levels of asthma some worst then others.  My sons is worst then my daughters.  Some common signs are: 1. haveing a stuffy or runney nose often  2. dry cough often  3. discolored upper and lower eye lids(bags for older children)  4. heavy breathing  5. shortness of breath  6. lots of colds, easy to get sick  7. and if they have allergeys(most of asthma attacks are caused by allergic reactions to something).  Hope this helps everyone.

Re: ASTHMA

Recent studies show a relationship between exposure to air pollutants and childhood asthma.

Everyday our bodies are under attack by pathogens and dangerous microbes that infest our surroundings with an unseen, unfelt, yet undeniable health threat. Our body’s built-in immune system protects us whenever possible, but it’s under constant attack from poor nutrition, stress, pollution, and fatigue.... The chemicals most frequently involved in household cleaners and a potent pollutant can cause respiratory, reproductive, endocrine and immune disorders like asthma and eczema, especially in children.

Is it true...
That childhood asthma cannot be diagnosed until a certain age because of the possibility of it being mixed up with something else - or have i gotten my conditions muddled up?  I know that there is something that cannot be diagnosed until a child is about 3 years old because younger than that it could be one of a number of things and by the time they are a toddler they can do all the required tests to make a firm diagnosis.

If wrong condition then I apologise for opening my big mouf.
Peace

athsma

athsma runs rampant in my family, i was the only one of my siblings and parents to not have it, we were always just told that we had athsma, and not given the symptoms, so this is great to know what to look out for.

I was always told the same thing, but i ended up learning what it was from seeing my mum having attacks and listening to the doctors and looking up what they had said. If mum was Really bad she would keep me home, so dad could work. I'd be the drink getter and helper and emergency phone caller when it came time to get her to hospital. My mum always left it to late to get to the hospital and as a result always ended up needing extra care and a hospital stay. If my sprays don't work and my breathing isn't getting better, I'm getting heavier in the chest I'm gone straight there (Hospital). I usually get put on the ventilator for an hour or so then sent home. i usually feel weak and needing rest for a few days after wards also. Which is what the Doctor always recommends. I have on one occasion been sent home only to return again that night with more asthma trouble, thats when the doctors change my prescription and put me in care only once thank god.

My boy has asthma
My boy was diagnosed with asthma this year. He is 3 years old and has suffered from severe eczema sine he was 12mths. He has strong sensitivities also. I think of him as my sickly child as my girl, 6. is so healthy. I worry about him all the time. He has days were he doesn't want to get out of bed, he just wants to sleep. I feel so bad, that I can't do anything to really help him. Today he has been coughing a lot and just sleeping.
I can relate to your article, thankyou.

My boy has asthma

I just responded to your blog"Oh my day". I WAS being presumptuous! I'm sorry. Try tissue salts. I have had huge success with them. Not with asthma but there is one for asthma.  Poor little tyke. There is nothing worse when your baby is sick. My son is perfectly healthy but my daughter was a sickly child and she still struggles with her health although it has improved greatly over the last six months.

If it is any consulation to you both, kids usually "grow out" of childhood asthma by 15 years old.

My boy has asthma
Apparently there is a link between Childhood eczema and adult asthma! I was recently told, I was a chronic sufferer of eczema as a baby and now as an adult I'm a Chronic asthmatic! My new born son Has chronic eczema and I'm now worried he'll also be asthmatic. Although no male on my mum's side of the family suffers Asthma, only the girls, so he may be the first. I thought i was lucky because None of my older children have eczema or skin allergies so i was praying when my youngest Shannan was born that he'd be lucky to and not have it, but he does and is the only one. I remember having eczema as a child and still occasionally get it in my fingers, Mine is extremely Itchy, extremely irritating and niggling and extremely painful as i swell up from eczema and it get's into my joint and makes it hard to move them.
