Comfortable Clothes

Kate by Kate Speaking(August 2006) (rank 500+)

When picking out lovely outfits for a new baby we always consider the size, fit and price, also the colours, brand etc., but how many of us pick up that darling embroidered sleeper without running our hands over the inside of the garment?  It is easy to forget that even

the comfiest looking outfits can have scratchy, hard bits on the inside that rub right against baby's skin.

I have noticed that at shops like Gymboree and the Gap, they have started to put interfacing on the backside of all of those embroidered bits, making a smooth surface inside; but many department stores haven't caught onto this yet.  Any fabric store will carry interfacing that you can purchase and iron on yourself.

A great bit of advice that I recieved as a new mom was that if my baby was inconsolable, crying, and fussy and I couldn't figgure out why; to strip them down to their nuddy-pants, and dress them again (naturally in the most comfortable clothing available).  It could be something as minor as a string stuck between the baby's toes that is driving them bananas! (Think of how annoying it is when your sock gets twisted!)

Another quick tip for buying sleepers:  I always purchased the ones with snapps going up both legs all the way to the neck so the thing could be laid out flat.  Sooooo much easier than trying to manouver their lolling little sleepy-heads through neck-holes!  My husband with his "large clumsy hands" (yeah, nice excuse) would dress our baby in nothing else!

I know what you mean!
A friend sent me this really cute short set for Aiden and he wore it all summer. It had inerfacing over the embroidery on it, so I never worried, kept putting it on him. But, after him wearing it all summer I realized that the interfacng after so many washes had bunched up!! So, not only was the embroidery bothering him...so was the bunched up interfacing! Make sure you iron them good!!

Organic
  • Just wanted to share a photo of my baby wearing an organic cotton shirt. Nice and soft.
  • I wish I could get organic clothing in bigger sizes. I would to get more for my my boy who wear size 4.  It is great though now it is widely available for babies.

comfy clothes

Even those embroidered clothes with interfacing on the back get old, or maybe it's already old because it's a hand-me-down. It's a good idea to check them and when the interfacing is torn up. Just rip it out completely and apply a new one on.

Choose soft clothes for babies

There was a baby at a bridal shower I attended today who was dressed in a beautiful pink dress.  But when we lifted it to see her little tummy, it was all chafed from the chrinolin (that netting stuff that makes dresses fluffy).  Poor dear.

Wonders
Wondersuits are great! Are they available outside Aus? They make dressing baby quite simple. I think its true - important that the clothes are comfortable. I know I get irritated with raw eges and tags, as would babe.

We don't get Wondersuits or Bonds here in Canada - but I am greatful when they are sent to me from family in Aus!  In Canada we have Baby's Own which I love... but I have to iron on the interfacing if they are embroidered because they don't come that way. Bummer!
