When picking out lovely outfits for a new baby we always consider the size, fit and price, also the colours, brand etc., but how many of us pick up that darling embroidered sleeper without running our hands over the inside of the garment? It is easy to forget that even
the comfiest looking outfits can have scratchy, hard bits on the inside that rub right against baby's skin.
I have noticed that at shops like Gymboree and the Gap, they have started to put interfacing on the backside of all of those embroidered bits, making a smooth surface inside; but many department stores haven't caught onto this yet. Any fabric store will carry interfacing that you can purchase and iron on yourself.
A great bit of advice that I recieved as a new mom was that if my baby was inconsolable, crying, and fussy and I couldn't figgure out why; to strip them down to their nuddy-pants, and dress them again (naturally in the most comfortable clothing available). It could be something as minor as a string stuck between the baby's toes that is driving them bananas! (Think of how annoying it is when your sock gets twisted!)
Another quick tip for buying sleepers: I always purchased the ones with snapps going up both legs all the way to the neck so the thing could be laid out flat. Sooooo much easier than trying to manouver their lolling little sleepy-heads through neck-holes! My husband with his "large clumsy hands" (yeah, nice excuse) would dress our baby in nothing else!
