Beware of overheating.

mcm by mcm Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 5th)
I think its important to be weary of overheating. When a baby is too hot, they can overheat. This has been linked to SIDS.
Layering is a good idea, as you can take off a layer when a baby gets too warm. For this reason, I also recommend natural clothing
made from wool and cotton. Fleece is an insulator and doesn't breathe so well.
My eldest child was born at the end of Summer and I found a singlet and nappy  sufficient as a newborn. A receiving blanket made from light flannelette or muslin are great for wrapping.
I have to be weary of overheating in my 3 year old as he suffers from eczema and overheating makes him itchy and uncomfortable. I dress him in loose cotton clothing.

over heating.

I always make sure my daughter is never too hot. If she is, i either turn the air conditioner on, take a layer of clothing off, or get a spray bottle full of cold water, and spray her every so often.

Thanks for the great advice. It has made a great point.

Layering is good
When it is hot or cold layering is best - duvets and other heavy covers are not a good idea because there is no gradual addition or removal - it is all or none.

Beware of Overheating
I agree with you about layering.  I was always told to dress your baby the same as you would dress yourself.  I see so many little ones bundles like Christmas presents on warm, sunny days.  They look so uncomfortable.  Thanks for the reminder.
