how deal with a baby when he or she is teething

kells2910 by kells2910 In Nappies(February 2009) (rank 500+)

I have 4 kids and when they were teething i found a really good way to help them stop crying i would

sit there and play with them take them for a swim just do all type's of different stuff to take there mind off but the best way

was to

take them for a swim and just spend time with them a baby love's being spoken to and just you showing them that you love them my

eldest child had such a hard time with his teeth i could not even put him down or all he wolud do is scream my daughter

was completely different it didnt even bother her when she got her teeth but my other daughter cryed when she was in pain

but i just put teething gel on her gum's but my youngest he has only just started teething so only time will tell with him.

some baby's do need pain relief but some baby's don't it depends on the baby but TLC is a much better

way to deal with it

I agree, keeping them busy and plenty of TLC always helps.  My daughter becomes very clingy when teething and does not cope well at all.  Thank you for your advice.

my 10 month old twins didnt give me sleepness nights, we just saw more teeth popping out. they each have 5, with the others slowly coming out as well. they are both cheery, playful kids, but teething with a runny tummy. just need to stock up on diapers. lol.

Distraction and TLC is very effective with babies when they are teething; I also found that using some form of pain relief, such as teething gel, like bonjela or herron was very helpful, as well as paracetamol to reduce fever if neccessary.  Things like rusks to chew on, apple chunks wrapped in muslin and tied shut, or those gel rings that you freeze were also very useful.
