Turn Taking - an important skill for learning to talk

MumKim by MumKim Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 12th)

As well as being a skill we all need to use to interact with other people turn taking is an important  pre-verbal skill.
Turn taking is a necessary skill in conversation but it doesn't happen automatically. Children need to learn it and practice it.

Some games to help

your child learn turn taking skills
+peek-a-boo
+rolling a ball or car to your little one and encouraging them to roll it back to you ( "your turn", "my turn", "your turn" etc)
+take turns to post a picture in a toy letterbox
+take turns to roll a ball to knock down some skittles.
+take turns to blow bubbles.

Great advice

Thanks for the info! I've heard/read that you can do this at a very early age too. When baby starts babbling, it's better to let him/her babble first and then talk in response, and then give baby a turn to babble again, much like a conversation.
