Early Literacy - Web Content For Young Children: Part 1 - Alphabet Games

muchmorethanamom by muchmorethanamom Walking(August 2006) (rank 500+)
As an early childhood teacher, I have seen the vast benefits of early literacy in schools and at home.  Reading to your baby?  Well, that's another article altogether which I'll write soon.

You ARE your child's first teacher!

Check out some of my favourite sites to expand the early literacy of children as young as 2 or 3 and as old as 8 or 9.

ALPHABET GAMES

ABC Mommy & Me: A Little Fingers Story Book

The ABC Game

A B Cow

A to Z - letter sounds

Alphabet Action

Alphabet Bears - An alphabetical order game

Alphabet Fun - Four lessons from Billy Bear

Alphabet Memory

Alphabet Zoo - an alphabetical order game

Alphabits - Yes, the cereal.

Connect the Alpha-Dots

Fuzzy Lion Ears - Learn beginning consonants (Always a favourite!)

Initial Consonants with Wee Webbies

Letter of the Day with Cookie Monster

Printing the Alphabet - watch the demonstration, then print a page and give it a try!

And, last but SO not least, my very favourite learning to read website:

Starfall.com!  Everything from pre-reading to advanced reading, this is an AWESOME site!

I hope you and your little people enjoy these sites.  Stay tuned for more coming soon!

Good websites!
The websites look pretty good. I especially like the one that shows how to form letters. As a speech pathologist I often noticed that children who had difficulty with learning their alphabet and the letter names and sounds were often the ones who also started writing their letters in the wrong place.

Re:
Thanks!  Glad you like them.  I work with lots of speech path's in my school and I totally agree...it's all connected and by starting early we can prevent a lot of problems.
